§ 20. Mr. Austinasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in regard to his appeal for the surrender of firearms, he proposes any special effort for the last week of the period; and whether, finally, he will report to the House the results achieved.
§ Mr. EdeThanks to the cooperation of the B.B.C., the Press and the newsreel companies, publicity has been continuous ever since the appeal was made and it will be maintained to the end of the month. I take this opportunity of re minding the public that the period of exemption from prosecution for holding firearms illegally expires on 31st March. I shall be glad to inform the House, in due course, of the result of the appeal.
