HC Deb 21 March 1946 vol 420 cc2013-4
18. Sir Wavell Wakefield

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will now give consideration to introducing legislation to amend the Deceased Wife's Sister's Marriage Act, so as to include a divorced wife's sister.

Mr. Ede

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to a similar Question by my hon. Friend the junior Member for Southampton (Mr T. Lewis) on 29th November last.

Sir W. Wakefield

Does not the Minister agree that it is desirable that this amendment of the law should be made even though there are only a few cases where there is real need for it?

Mr. Ede

This matter would arouse considerable controversy.
