HC Deb 14 March 1946 vol 420 c1252
2. Mr. Edelman

asked the Minister of National Insurance whether he will make immediate payment of unemployment benefit to the 550 men recently declared redundant at Messrs. Humber, Limited, Coventry, to whom such payment has been refused by the local officials of his Department on the grounds that these workers are unemployed owing to a trade dispute.

Mr. J. Griffiths

The determination of questions arising on a claim for unemployment benefit is for the independent statutory authorities, namely, the insurance officer, the Court of Referees and the Umpire. I have no power to interfere. I am informed that the Court of Referees is considering appeals against the disqualifications in a representative number of test cases.

Mr. Edelman

When will these appeals be heard?

Mr. Griffiths

I understand they are under consideration now.
