HC Deb 14 March 1946 vol 420 c1256
13. Sir G. Fox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men have resigned from the police service of England and Wales since 1st January, 1946, on pension, not having completed maximum service; how many have resigned since 1st January, 1946, of their own volition, without pension; and how many have signified that they do not intend to return to the police service upon completing service with the armed forces.

Mr. Ede

The figures for the Metropolitan Police Force are 352 with pension, excluding men who retired on medical pension, and 61 without pension. The answer to the last part of the Question is 37. I am not in a position to give figures for other police forces in England and Wales.

Sir G. Fox

Are we to understand that more police are leaving the service now than are being recruited?

Mr. Ede

I do not think that would be a correct inference.
