§ 67. Mr. John Beattieasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state the amounts paid in grants to the Government of Northern Ireland during the last financial year for all purposes; whether the expenditure of such sums is subject to examination by the Public Accounts Committee, or what check is there on the expenditure of said grants.
§ Mr. DaltonAs the answer is detailed, I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Following is the answer:
§ The revised estimates of the payments to be made to the Northern Ireland Exchequer in the year 1945–46 are as follows:
§ Consolidated Fund Services.—Payments to Northern Ireland Exchequer, consisting of the 1288 proceeds of reserved taxes in Northern Ireland, after deduction of Imperial Contribution and cost of reserved services in Northern Ireland —£12,266,000.
§ Votes of Credit.—Excess expenditure on Northern Ireland services, arising out of the war—£1,000,000.
§ These payments are subject to examination by the Public Accounts Committee of this House, when the audited appropriation accounts of the United Kingdom Consolidated Fund and of Votes of Credit come before the Committee in due course. The payments are credited to Northern Ireland revenue, and expenditure out of such revenue is audited by the Comptroller and Auditor-General of Northern Ireland.
