HC Deb 14 March 1946 vol 420 cc1286-7
63 and 64. Major Lloyd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) whether, with a view to creating greater incentive for increased production among industrial wage earners, he will consider amending the present system of Pay as you Earn so as to give some relief from taxation on overtime earnings; (2) whether the compulsory contributions under the proposed scheme will rank for income tax relief for employers and employees, including the self-employed.

65 and 66. Lieut.-Commander Clark Hutchison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) whether he has considered the recommendation of the Scottish Housing Advisory Committee that lump sum cash payments in respect of income tax post war credits should be made to holders to enable them to use such sums for house purchase; and whether he will implement this proposal; (2) whether he will give favourable consideration to the recommendation of the Scottish Housing Advisory Committee that the payment of stamp duty on the sale of new houses for owner-occupation should be suspended.

76. Mr. Reeves

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that there has been differentiation in the application of purchase tax to projectors, he will consider exempting 16 mm. silent, sound and filmstrip projectors from the tax, in the same way as 35 mm. projectors have been exempted; particularly in view of the urgent need for such projectors being available for educational purposes.

Mr. Dalton
