HC Deb 12 March 1946 vol 420 c934
32. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the Minister of Labour how many stoppages of work have occurred in the last six months on the part of workers who refused to work with a non-trade unionist.

Mr. Isaacs

According to the information at my disposal, there were 30 stoppages of work in the six months up to the end of February, 1946, which were due to the refusal on the part of workers to work with non-trade unionists. The stoppages in question involved some 7,500 workers.

Major Legge-Bourke

Does the right hon. Gentleman not agree that it is highly desirable that as many people as possible should join the unions for their respective trades, but does he consider that the repeal of the Trade Disputes Act, 1927, is going to do that?

Mr. Isaacs

I think that matter had better be discussed on the Trade Disputes' Bill.
