HC Deb 12 March 1946 vol 420 cc940-1
72. Mr. McKie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the inconvenience caused to legal firms by the time taken by the General Register House, Edinburgh, in recording deeds, he will give a directive to the Department to expedite the return of these documents.

Mr. Westwood

The staff of the General Register House has been seriously depleted during the war and the shortage in the typing grades is particularly acute. With the conclusion of hostilities the volume of business has greatly increased, and some delay is unavoidable; but as additional staff becomes available the delay will be reduced.

Mr. McKie

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman to keep this matter very much in mind as great inconvenience has been caused?

Mr. Westwood

Certainly I will.
