§ 39. Sir H. Morris-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the Department of the Welsh Church Commissioners is going to be abolished.
§ Mr. EdeAs I intimated in the replies which I gave on this subject on 6th and 13th December last, the life of the Welsh Church Commission has been prolonged until the end of 1946, in the expectation that this will be final.
§ Sir H. Morris-JonesIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the protracted life of this body, and the consequent withholding of money due to beneficiaries, has become a matter of public concern, and will he not expedite the process of its dissolution, in view of the waste of money involved in salaries and upkeep of an expensive staff?
§ Mr. EdeI have no intention of extending the life of this Commission beyond 31st December this year, and I hope that, on that date, the hon. Member will be able to issue the death certificate.
