HC Deb 07 March 1946 vol 420 cc478-9
9. Squadron-Leader Segal

asked the Assistant Postmaster - General what revenue he estimates will accrue from the sale of the new Victory stamps for other than postage purposes; and whether he will consider printing the design of the new Victory stamps in a wider range of colours to cover all the various denominations of stamps now in issue.

Mr. Burke

I have no information on which I could estimate what revenue will accrue from the sale of the new Victory stamps for other than postage purposes. Having regard to our manufacturing resources and the many preliminaries involved the time available will not permit of printing and issuing the new stamps in more than two values at most, and it may not be possible to issue these simultaneously.

Squadron-Leader Segal

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that a large quantity of dollars is ready to fall into the lap of the Chancellor, if my hon. Friend will do as suggested in the second part of my Question?

Mr. Burke

I hope that may be so.

Mr. McGovern

Would the hon. Member say what this victory is? Is it the victory of the Labour Party at the General Election?
