HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 cc19-20
43. Mr. Pickthorn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he is limiting his advice to Polish troops to reporting the assurances given by the Polish Provisional Government; or if he is including any reference to the possible acquisition of British citizenship by Polish soldiers deciding against repatriation.

Mr. Noel-Baker

The hon. Member will, no doubt, recall that my right hon. Friend has undertaken to broadcast a statement to the Polish troops. I think it would be wiser for me not to anticipate what my right hon. Friend will say in that statement.

Mr. Pickthorn

May we have an assurance that we are not underwriting or guaranteeing any assurances from any foreign Government?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I think the hon. Member had better await a statement by my right hon. Friend. [An Hon. Member: "When? "] In the early future.
