HC Deb 04 March 1946 vol 420 c20
46. Major Bruce

asked the Prime Minister whether he will move to appoint a Select Committee to investigate the whereabouts of funds at the disposal of those charitable, benevolent and kindred associations or societies whose main objects, for which they were originally formed, have now ceased to exist; and frame the terms of reference to include powers of recommendation as to the proper disposal of funds so held.

The Lord President of the Council (Mr. Herbert Morrison)

If my hon. and gallant Friend will let me have particulars of any such funds and his grounds for thinking that it is contrary to the public interest that their disposal should remain with those to whom it has been entrusted, I will consider whether any action by the Government is called for.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman if it is not a fact that the Charity Commissioners are keeping a very watchful eye on these matters?

Mr. Morrison

I hope so. Sir.
