§ 69. Mr. Murrayasked the Minister of Food why, in view of his Department's refusal to allow any extra allowance of food and drink for persons attending the Durham miners' gala on 20th July, food and drinks up to prewar standard have been permitted for the 250,000 persons expected to attend the race for the Derby on 5th June.
§ Mr. StracheyMy hon. Friend is under a misapprehension; no extra food has been given to caterers for the Derby.
§ Mr. MurrayIs the Minister aware that his answer will give a certain amount of satisfaction to the Durham miners, but is he also aware that a national daily paper issued in this country has stated that as a fact? I refer to the " Daily Herald." Will the Minister see that statements like these can at least be corrected so that no class distinction will be created against the working classes?
§ Mr. StracheyI am very grateful to the hon. Member for giving me an opportunity of giving the true facts.
Major LloydCould not some of the statements made by the " Daily Herald " during the General Election be corrected?
§ Mr. StracheyThose statements were correct.
§ Mr. DribergCould the Minister say who won the Derby?
§ Mr. StracheyI believe it was Airborne.
