HC Deb 05 June 1946 vol 423 cc1981-2
24. Colonel J. R. H. Hutchison

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation whether the agreement with the Government of Eire relating to air services is already in operation on a provisional or definite basis.

Mr. Ivor Thomas

The agreement is in operation on a definite basis.

Colonel Hutchison

Are we to take it that when we have an opportunity to debate this agreement the door is already closed and barred?

Mr. Thomas

The agreement has certainly been made, but if the House were to express an adverse opinion it can always be amended in accordance with the provisions therein contained. However, I have not the slightest doubt that when the Debate occurs I shall succeed in convincing the House that it is a good agreement.

Sir Ronald Ross

Can it not be left to a free vote?

Mr. Sheftington-Lodge

Is the Minister aware that the agreement is widely welcomed on these benches?

Hon. Members

Nonsense.
