HC Deb 04 June 1946 vol 423 cc1786-7
7. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Minister of Works why only 268 of the proposed 877 emergency factory-made houses have so far been handed over in the Metropolitan borough of Lambeth; and what steps he will take to expedite completion of its full programme.

Mr. Tomlinson

The number of sites handed over by the Lambeth Borough Council is 690. Except for 21 houses, the type of temporary house allocated to the council was Uni-Seco. The demand for this type of house has exceeded the rate of production and supplies have had to be rationed. To relieve the situation a number of Arcon houses are being sent to Lambeth.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Is my right hon. Friend aware that not one factory-made house has been handed over to the borough council down Lambeth way for nearly two months, and will he not give some well merited priority to this borough?

Mr. Tomlinson

I will look into that. I was not aware of it.

Mr. Bossom

Can the Minister say whether the foundations of the Uni-Seco are equally satisfactory for the Arcon house?

Mr. Tomlinson

Yes, the Arcon can be put on the Uni-Seco foundations.
