§ 77. Major Niall Macphersonasked the Lord Advocate whether he proposes to appoint selection committees, similar to those set up in England by the Lord Chancellor, to examine applications for appointment as lay members of pensions appeals tribunals; and what will be their composition.
§ The Lord Advocate (Mr. G. R. Thomson)The function of appointing the members of pensions appeal tribunals, which in England is vested in the Lord Chancellor, is in Scotland vested in the Lord President of the Court of Session. No function in connection with the appointment of the members of such tribunals is vested in the Lord Advocate. I am informed, however, that the Lord President has, in consultation with representative bodies, formed panels of suitable persons.
