§ 74. Mr. Gilzeanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the per capita grant at present given to schools under the control of education committees in Scotland and to schools under managements other than education committees, respectively.
§ Mr. WestwoodFor the year ended 15th May, 1946, the per capita grant payable 1815 were £5 4s. 3d. per pupil and £258 per teacher. Until the statistics and estimates now being furnished by the education authorities have been received and examined, I shall not be in a position to determine how much of the total increase in grant, amounting to £1,300,000, will be available to raise the pupil and teacher grants, but the grant regulations for the year ending 15th May, 1947, will be issued as soon as possible. In the case of the few schools not under the management of education authorities, the grants, none of which is on a per capita basis, are now provided under the Education (Scotland) Miscellaneous Grants Provisional Regulation, 1946, which were issued on 30IJ1 May, 1946.
§ Mr. GilzeanWould my right hon. Friend tell me if the independent schools are given bigger grants on the average, than the schools under the education committees?
§ Mr. WestwoodI could not answer that without notice, but I will look into the point raised by my hon. Friend and see that he gets an answer.
