HC Deb 04 June 1946 vol 423 c1811
69. Mr. Challen

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that men of military age, who are released from war factories as redundant, sometimes have to wait as long as six months before they are called up; that they are unable to obtain suitable civilian employment as they are constantly expecting to be directed into the Forces; and if he will take steps to remedy this position which is causing hardship.

Mr. Ness Edwards

Unemployed men due for call-up are given priority of posting and everything possible is done to prevent delay. I have no information to suggest that the arrangements are not working smoothly, but shall be glad to examine any cases of delay of which the hon. Member lets me have particulars.
