Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will consider introducing legislation to provide that when an occupier has paid by means of rent to any gas or electricity company the cost of the meter or appliance rented, together with installation charges, the rental fee should cease forthwith.
§ Mr. GaitskellI am aware of the dissatisfaction on this matter. But a change in the methods of charging for gas and electricity meters and appliances raises many complicated issues and can be dealt with far more effectively when both industries have been brought under national ownership.
