HC Deb 24 July 1946 vol 426 cc33-4
58. Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Food whether he will authorise extra rations of bread and cheese to night workers or to permanent night watchmen at premises not provided with canteens.

Dr. Summerskill

My right hon. Friend regrets that he is unable to adopt this suggestion.

Mr. Keeling

As night workers at such premises are obviously no less deserving of extra food than night workers at premises which have canteens, will the hon. Lady receive a deputation on this subject from night watchmen and other night workers?

Dr. Summerskill

I do not think that will serve any useful purpose, because the employers of night watchmen can supply a packed meal service, as other employers do.
