HC Deb 24 July 1946 vol 426 cc25-6
37. Mr. Skinnard

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will give details of the educational programme proposed for Nigeria as part of the 10-year development plan; and whether this programme has been sanctioned by his Department.

Mr. George Hall

The 10-year education plan for Nigeria is at present being considered here, in consultation with a representative of the Nigerian Government. My hon. Friend will appreciate that it is not therefore practicable for me to give him details at this stage, but I will do so as soon as possible.

Mr. Turton

Is it not a fact that this educational programme is being delayed by the failure of the right hon. Gentleman to make up his mind on the reports of the committee on higher education?

Mr. Hall

No, that is not so.

Colonel Wigg

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the plan was received from the Nigerian Government?

Mr. Hall

If my memory serves me aright, about the end of April or the beginning of May.
