HC Deb 24 July 1946 vol 426 c32
53. Major Guy Lloyd

asked the Minister of Food how many shell eggs per ration book were issued in the period between February and May this year.

Dr. Summerskill

From the beginning of February to the end of May this year, 28 shell eggs per ration book were issued for non-priority consumers.

Major Lloyd

Does the hon. Lady recall that on 15th February the Minister then in charge of food definitely told the House that he intended that there should be an issue of 40 shell eggs per ration book for the period February to May? Is this just another of the many broken promises of the Government?

Dr. Summerskill

I certainly do recall that, but, unfortunately, we are unable to control the elements or the hens.
