HC Deb 16 July 1946 vol 425 cc1048-9
61. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the sterling value of British assets in India, as at 1st April, 1938, and 1946, respectively, or at the nearest convenient date; and the causes of any changes.

Mr. Dalton

I regret that figures are not available.

62. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a comprehensive statement on the policy of His Majesty's Government in regard to the sale of British assets in India to Indian nationals.

Mr. Dalton

It is not the policy of His Majesty's Government to intervene as regards sales of British business interests in India. Such sales have been on a relatively small scale and take place only when they are regarded as commercially advantageous by the parties concerned.
