HC Deb 09 July 1946 vol 425 cc227-8
47. Mr. Collins

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster the quantities of potash exported from the British zone in Germany to Holland and the United Kingdom, respectively, during the most recent six months period for which figures are available.

Mr. J. Hynd

During the six months ended 15th June last some 9,500 metric tons of potash fertiliser were exported to Holland and some 16,500 metric tons to the United Kingdom.

Major Peter Roberts

Is the Chancellor aware that our fields in this country have been starved of potash for six years, and that far more than the 16,500 tons mentioned of this German potash is required in this country now to give us bread next year?

Mr. Hynd

That is why an allocation has been made to this country.

Major Roberts

It is not enough.
