HC Deb 09 July 1946 vol 425 c230
52. Brigadier Low

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the delay being experienced by correspondents with His Majesty's Inspector of Taxes in Blackpool in receiving replies to inquiries about code numbers for Pay-as-you-Earn purposes; and whether he will give instructions that applications for reconsideration of code numbers, where His Majesty's Inspector of Taxes has reduced the code number, will be considered immediately in order to avoid any injustice to the private individual concerned.

Mr. Dalton

There has been some delay, owing to shortage of staff, in dealing with P.A.Y.E. correspondence in Blackpool. But the position has much improved in the last three months. Instructions have already been issued that priority shall be given to appeals against code numbers, and if the hon. and gallant Member has any particular cases in mind, and will let me have them, I will see that they are looked into at once.
