HC Deb 09 July 1946 vol 425 c235
57. Mr. Osborne

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has recently considered the effect of the Trading with the Enemy Order as applied to Austria; and if, in the national interest, he will consider rescinding it.

Mr. Dalton

I hope shortly to be able to relax the present restrictions.

Mr. Osborne

Is the Chancellor aware that in Austria there are 15,000 standards of timber, cut to British specification, waiting to come here, and that they cannot come because of these regulations? Will he remove the regulations at once?

Mr. Dalton

We are looking into this matter with every desire to assist British trade but this is, of course, a matter in which we have to take consultation with our American, French, and Soviet Allies.
