HC Deb 28 February 1946 vol 419 c2095
38. Major Legge-Bourke

asked the Minister of Health why the delivery date for aluminium houses for Wisbech has been delayed until at least the end of April despite a previous statement by his Department that delivery would be made in from two or three weeks from 21st January, 1946.

Mr. Bevan

Iregret that owing to a misunderstanding a wrong delivery date was given.

Major Legge-Bourke

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a letter was written on 21st January both to the Wisbech Borough Council and to myself giving this date, and will he reconsider the matter, in view of the disastrous effect for the labour concerned, of prolonging what he calls the cushion period?

Mr. Bevan

I will consider that.

Colonel Thornton-Kemsley

Will the Minister say how many other cases there were in which wrong delivery dates were given?

Mr. Bevan

The most important and most massive delivery date for these houses was provided by the late Government.
