HC Deb 28 February 1946 vol 419 c2103
51. Mr. Douglas Marshall

asked the Minister of Labour in view of the world food shortage, if he will take immediate steps to stop the call-up of youths employed in the fishing industry.

Mr. Isaacs

The existing arrangements under which young men employed as fishermen are eligible for deferment of call up to the Forces should adequately safeguard the labour force in the industry.

Mr. Marshall

Is the Minister aware that there has been anxiety in Cornwall on the question of deferring those engaged in the fishing industry, and will he give particular consideration to the letters which I believe have been forwarded to him?

Mr. Isaacs

Certainly, Sir. We will give attention to any individual case.
