HC Deb 26 February 1946 vol 419 c1748

The following Question stood upon the Order Paper;

73. Major GUY LLOYD

,—To ask the Minister of Information whether he will request the B.B.C. to undertake regular broadcasts in Russian to the Russian people, with a view to explaining the British purpose and way of life.

Major Lloyd

I beg leave to withdraw the Question standing in my name.

Captain Crookshank: May I ask the Prime Minister what is the position about these Questions? Who is really responsible for the Ministry of Information? Last week the Lord President of the Council and an Under-Secretary answered alternately. Today we have the Assistant Postmaster-General, who has nothing to do with this group of Questions, though he had something to do with the first. May we be assured by the Prime Minister that if we put down Questions to this Department a really responsible Minister will give us an answer?

The Prime Minister

The present arrangement is only an interim one in the absence of my right hon. Friend. Other arrangements will be made.

Captain Crookshank

Yes, but it was a different interim arrangement last week.
