§ 29. Mr. Piratinasked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware that neon lighting is being installed at stores in Oxford Street, London, W.; by whose authority this has been permitted; and if he will take immediate steps to forbid the use of electricity for these purposes.
§ Mr. ShinwellThe installation of neon or other lighting fitments is not a matter which concerns my Ministry, provided 1730 that they are not used in contravention of the law. With regard to the last part of the Question the use of all forms of lighting for advertisement purposes, including the display of goods in the course of business, is already prohibited, and a trader in Oxford Street was recently prosecuted and fined for using "Neon" lighting for advertisement purposes.
§ Mr. PiratinWould the Minister let me know which Ministry is responsible for this matter? I understand that usually when a Question of this kind is sent to the Minister, it is transferred to some other Department.
§ Mr. ShinwellI am not aware of that. Perhaps my hon. Friend will have a talk with me about it.
