HC Deb 25 February 1946 vol 419 c1546
33. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the President of the Board of Trade why priority is not being given to local authorities for the supply of furniture to council dwellings to enable them to carry out their powers under Section 72 (2) of the Housing Act, I936.

Sir S. Cripps

Permits for utility furniture are reserved for members of the priority classes, including, of course, those of them who are tenants of council dwellings. I am not aware that any local authority wishes itself to supply such furniture under the powers referred to.

Mr. Hynd

Would not all progressive local authorities wish to supply furniture, and use their powers in that respect?

Sir S. Cripps

That may be, but they have not so stated.
