HC Deb 25 February 1946 vol 419 c1555
46. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Prime Minister if, in the interests of production, it is proposed to limit horse racing to weekends.

Mr. H. Morrison

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister gave to the hon. Member for Hornsey (Mr. Gammans) on 21st February last, to which I have nothing to add.

Mr. Hynd

Is there not more of a case for restricting horse racing, which is a purely gambling affair, to weekends, rather than football, which is a real sport?

Mr. Morrison

In all these cases the Government hope that the promoters of these functions will keep the interests of production in mind.
