HC Deb 20 February 1946 vol 419 cc1136-7
25. Sir Alan Herbert

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what is the approximate strength of the Russian troops now in the Danish island of Bornholm; and why they are there.

Mr. Bevin

The Soviet forces went to Bornholm to take surrender of the Germans there. I am not in a position to give any information as to their number.

Mr. Follick

Would the right hon. Gentleman state what are the intentions of the Russian Government as regards those troops remaining in Bornholm, and when will they come out?

Mr. Bevin

I did not know that in answer to a Question I was expected to give a reply concerning the intentions of the Soviet Government.

Sir A. Herbert

Perhaps at a proper opportunity would the right hon. Gentleman persuade the warm hearted M. Manuilsky to take a proper interest in the affairs of this little island?

Mr. Bevin

I think my hon. Friend might refer that question to the Oxford Group.
