HC Deb 12 December 1946 vol 431 c1328
44. Mr. Douglas Marshall

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the rubber sea boots supplied to fishermen, under permit, are of inferior material; that the rubber used is such that their boots do not keep out the weather; and if he will give this matter active consideration, with a view to improving the quality of the boots.

Sir S. Cripps

Owing to the shortage of crude rubber, substitute materials had to be used for rubber boot production, but, since the beginning of this year, manufacturers of fishermen's thigh boots have received increased supplies of crude rubber to improve the production of these boots. The types and quantity of crude rubber now available have enabled manufacturers to revert to the prewar construction of fishermen's thigh boots, and boots of this new production are already under actual test by the fishing fleet.
