HC Deb 04 December 1946 vol 431 cc315-6
12. Mr. Lennox-Boyd

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation whether, in view of the failure of the Government-sponsored corporation to provide any air services to Switzerland for the forthcoming Swiss holiday season, he will, for the time being, allow private British charter companies to run regular advertised services between the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

Mr. Lindgren

Under the Civil Aviation Act, 1946, the provision of systematic services is, of course, a matter for the three corporations. As regards the premise of the hon. Member's Question, the governing facts at present are the temporarily limited resources of the British European Airways Corporation and the prority demands for air communications to other countries. It is hoped that the regular service will be started early in 1947. Meanwhile, the British European Airways Corporation is providing for scheduled air tours to Switzerland for the forthcoming Swiss holiday season by suitable charter arrangements.
