HC Deb 04 December 1946 vol 431 c328
34. Mr. Vane

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is the cost of publishing the "British Zone Review"; and what is its circulation.

Mr. J. Hynd

The cost of each issue of the "British Zone Review" is about £100 sterling plus 1,700 Reichmarks. The circulation is 17,750 copies.

Mr. Vane

Does not the hon. Gentleman consider that it is a lot of money for a paper of rather low standard, and would he not consider discontinuing it, especially as all factual information is summarised in the Control Commission's Monthly Report?

Mr. Hynd

I agree that it would be a lot of money if it were a paper of low standard. I think that the "Review" is an excellent publication and is full of useful information.

Mr. Wilson Harris

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this paper contains many articles of great interest to anyone in this country who wants to understand conditions in the British zone?

Mr. Hynd

The primary purpose of the paper is to retain the interest of our own staff in Germany in the various activities that are going on.
