34. Mr. Vaneasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is the cost of publishing the "British Zone Review"; and what is its circulation.
§ Mr. J. HyndThe cost of each issue of the "British Zone Review" is about £100 sterling plus 1,700 Reichmarks. The circulation is 17,750 copies.
Mr. VaneDoes not the hon. Gentleman consider that it is a lot of money for a paper of rather low standard, and would he not consider discontinuing it, especially as all factual information is summarised in the Control Commission's Monthly Report?
§ Mr. HyndI agree that it would be a lot of money if it were a paper of low standard. I think that the "Review" is an excellent publication and is full of useful information.
§ Mr. Wilson HarrisIs the hon. Gentleman aware that this paper contains many articles of great interest to anyone in this country who wants to understand conditions in the British zone?
§ Mr. HyndThe primary purpose of the paper is to retain the interest of our own staff in Germany in the various activities that are going on.
