HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 cc15-6
38. Mr. W. Shepherd

asked the Minister of Transport what conclusion he has now come to about the desirability of eliminating the yellow light before the green.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

Further experiments are to be made on roads, such as Piccadilly, carrying a heavy volume of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and until the results are available, it would be unwise to form a conclusion on the value of eliminating the amber with red signal.

Mr. Shepherd

As it appears to be difficult to get the Minister of Transport to form any conclusions at all, will he say when he is likely to decide on this matter?

Mr. Strauss

We hope to decide within a few months. It is very difficult to form any conclusions until we are quite sure.
