HC Deb 02 December 1946 vol 431 cc8-9
15. Sir Basil Neven-Spence

asked the Minister of Food, whether he is aware that 10,000 ration books for children in Orkney and Shetland have been dishonoured in respect of their banana allocation; and what action he proposes to take in this matter.

Mr. Strachey

I know that during recent months the islands have not been getting their share of the available supplies of bananas; due mainly to the absence of ripening rooms there. I am endeavouring to make arrangements under which supplies will be sent from wholesalers in Aberdeen who have ripening rooms.
