HC Deb 11 April 1946 vol 421 c2094
49. Mr. Spence

asked the Minister of Labour whether payments to employers under the interrupted apprenticeship scheme are made monthly or quarterly; and whether he is satisfied that such payments are being made with reasonable promptness.

Mr. Isaacs

Claims for the State grant payable under the scheme for interrupted apprenticeships may be submitted by employers at monthly intervals, although at the request of some firms their claims are submitted quarterly. I regret that owing to shortage of staff there has been considerable delay in handling some of the applications and claims, but arrangements have now been made which I hope will prevent such delays in future.

Mr. Spence

Will the Minister say whether it is an obligation on the employer to claim these payments?

Mr. Isaacs

I would like notice of that. I could not answer definitely.
