HC Deb 10 April 1946 vol 421 c1917
41. Mr. Beswick

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which body originated the decision to use the new system of aural tests in the medical examination of pilots applying for renewal of B licences.

Mr. Ivor Thomas

The system was introduced following a decision of the International Commission for Air Navigation adopted at the Plenary Session held in London in August, 1945.

Mr. Beswick

Does my hon. Friend realise that this test seems likely to eliminate some of our most experienced pilots, as very high tone deafness is almost an occupational disease? Would he see whether some representations could be made about it?

Mr. Thomas

I think we arc bound to follow international practice in this matter, but I will see whether the points which have been made by my hon. Friend were fully considered at the Conference.
