HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 c1777
18. Mr. Haworth

asked the Minister of Works whether he is aware that Messrs. Vernons, Limited, Liverpool, are anxious to recruit workers from the Walton area for their Aintree factory as soon as the factory is released; and whether he can now say when this place will be available to absorb some of the 5,000 registered unemployed from the Walton registers.

Mr. Tomlinson

Messrs. Vernon's premises at Aintree, used before the war for their football pool business, area about 65,000 square feet, are occupied by a Post Office parcel sorting office and the War Office forms store. I am unable, at the moment, to say when it will be possible to release the premises, but we will do so as soon as and when alternative accommodation for these essential services can be provided.
