HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 cc1799-800
66. Sir G. Fox

asked the Secretary of State for War if the military hospital for head injuries at Wheatley, owing to the bad conditions there, can be removed to the Churchill Hospital, Headington, pending an inquiry; or if he will ensure that conditions are improved.

Mr. Bellenģer

The Churchill Hospital at Headington is urgently required to meet civil needs, and it was for this reason that the military hospital had to be moved to Wheatley. Steps have already been taken to improve conditions at Wheatley in certain respects, and I am expecting a further full report shortly. When my right hon. Friend has considered this report he will write to the hon. Member.

Sir G. Fox

Is the Minister aware that all the wards except one are heated by Army stoves which are quite unsuitable and cause constant irritation to people who have bad head injuries and who have suffered severe head operations?

Mr. Bellenģer

We have already made certain improvements in that respect, but we are awaiting a further report. We shall do all we can to improve conditions.
