HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 cc1783-4
Mr. Haworth

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that numbers of men registered at the Walton employment exchange, Liverpool, are willing to work at brickworks in the St. Helens area if transport can be provided; and whether he will arrange for omnibuses for this purpose as was done during the war and as is done now for prisoners of war.

Mr. Isaacs

None of the workers registered at the Walton Employment Exchange is a skilled brickworker and vacancies for unskilled workers in the St. Helens area can be met from local sources.

Mr. Haworth

Does the Minister know whether that applies to the Upholland district where they still want workers?

Mr. Isaacs

I can only answer the Question on the Paper. Unskilled workers are more easily obtained than skilled workers.
