HC Deb 09 April 1946 vol 421 cc1784-5
44. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Minister of Labour if, in view of the proposed relaxation of the Essential Work Order, designed to permit freedom of movement within the mining industry, he will consider a similar relaxation to permit farm workers to change their employment while remaining within the agricultural industry.

Mr. Isaacs

No decision has yet been reached on the proposal referred to in the first part of the Question. The possibility of withdrawing or modifying the Essential Work (Agriculture) (Scotland) Order was recently considered by the Departments concerned when it was decided, with the concurrence of the representative bodies of both sides of the industry, that, for the time being, no relaxation should be made. The matter is to be kept under continual review
