HC Deb 08 April 1946 vol 421 cc1619-20
10. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Minister of Supply, what priority is now offered to the manufacture and supply of engines for fishing vessels; and what steps should be taken by applicants for such engines in order to obtain earliest possible delivery.

Mr. Wilmot

Arrangements are being made with the manufacturers for the needs of the fishing fleet to be given priority over demands for pleasure craft and also over exports, beyond a small quota to be settled in conjunction with the Board of Trade. In cases of special hardship I am prepared, in consultation with the other Departments concerned, to do what I can to speed up delivery.

Mr. Stewart

Does that mean that, if I bring a case to the notice of the right hon. Gentleman of a fisherman who cannot get to sea because he cannot have an engine, he will help me to find an engine for him?

Mr. Wilmot

If it is a case of special hardship, I shall be very pleased to help.
