§ 59. Mr. Laversasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that the considerable number of unemployed men who are signing on at the Wingate, County Durham employment exchange, are being informed by the exchange officials that work could be found for seven or eight omnibus loads of them if transport facilities were available; that representations had been made by them to the transport authorities without any result; and if he will take the necessary steps to obtain the required transport with a view to getting work for these men
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsI am aware of the unemployment situation at Wingate. I am informed that no such statement has been made by my local officers, but I am making further inquiries and will write to my hon. Friend as soon as they are completed.
§ Mr. LaversWhile I appreciate the reply, I sincerely hope that the inquiries will be speeded up because the present position is decidedly unsatisfactory.
§ Mr. PopplewellIs the hon. Gentleman aware that though it has been suggested that certain factories should go to the North-East there is a tremendous delay before they actually get transferred and into production, and will he take steps to try to expedite the matter?
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsI am afraid that does not arise out of the Question.
