§ 60. Mr. J. L. Williamsasked the Minister of Labour what steps are being taken to overcome the scarcity of glassblowers in this country: and whether the importation of foreign glassblowers is now contemplated.
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsIn view of the scarcity of glassblowers, releases from the Forces in Class B have been sanctioned. I am also considering the question of training new entrants. Where skilled British workers are not available, highly skilled individual foreign glassblowers are admitted to fill key posts.
§ Mr. WilliamsIs the hon. Gentleman aware that a firm in Glasgow has applied eight times without success for the release of one glassblower?
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsI would be very pleased if details of that case could be made available to me.
