HC Deb 01 April 1946 vol 421 cc810-1
24. Lieut.-Commander Clark Hutchison

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that some cotton mills are still manufacturing material ordered in connection with the campaign in Burma; and whether he will terminate these contracts forthwith and switch over production in these mills to material for civilian use.

Mr. Wilmot

All textiles now being manufactured for despatch to Burma are needed either for our troops still stationed there or for relief and rehabilitation purposes.

Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

Might not this material be woven in India, in order to allow the mills at home to be turned over to production for the home market?

Mr. Wilmot

I am afraid I cannot say without notice.

Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

the Minister investigate that point?

Mr. Wilmot

Certainly, Sir.
