HC Deb 29 October 1945 vol 415 c40
57. Mr. Boothby asked

the Minister of Agriculture whether His Majesty's Government have evolved a policy for the trawling industry; and when it will be announced

Mr. T. Williams

As I stated in reply to a Question on 18th October by my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Grimsby (Major Younger), His Majesty's Government have decided to convene as soon as possible an International Conference of the countries concerned for the purpose of drawing up an agreement for the prevention of over-fishing in the North Sea. A complete policy for the trawling industry of this country must await the outcome of that conference, together with the settlement of other important questions, which are now engaging my attention and that of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, and on which at the moment I am not in a position to make a definite statement.

Mr. Boothby

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the International Conference is likely to be held?

Mr. Williams

I am afraid I could not.
