HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 cc873-4
14. Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether a reply has yet been received from the Soviet member of the Allied Control Commission to the letter requesting the grant of facilities on a reciprocal basis for the search in the Soviet zone in Germany for the 150 missing British prisoners of war.

Mr. Noel-Baker

No, Sir, no reply has yet been received from the Soviet member of the Allied Control Commission in Berlin.

Mr. Turton

In view of the procrastination that has already taken place in this matter, may I ask whether the Minister will make a direct approach to Generalissimo Stalin to give facilities for an immediate search for this large number of prisoners of war who have disappeared in the Soviet zone?

Mr. Noel-Baker

This is a matter which falls within the competence of the Allied Commission, and I hope that the hon. Member will recognise that the procrastination has not been on our side.
